Shorts Package: Like a Wheel
Note: Please read the description of the documentary films in each package. What we curate can be a roller coaster ride. Shorts are like complicated poems and we want our audiences to be challenged.
This shorts package includes five, 1 to 3 minute movies on the theme of Movement created by five Denver Public School Advanced High School Film Students sprinkled throughout this package. Bad Child (Dir. Nicole Emilíana Mendez, 13mins), a short documentary about childhood sexual abuse. It focuses on the outcomes of one survivor while expert interviews place emphasis on the importance of parental support. Multiple layers of images, sounds, and animation overstimulate the viewer, effectively conveying the complexity of living with trauma. Feed. (Dir. Tomas Hassall, 11mins), In this doc the filmmaker takes a gentle look into the ethical production from field to fork, and the journey lambs travel from birth to death in this video essay investigating the commodification of nature in Western culture. Everything Wrong and Nowhere to go (Dir. Sindha Agha, 12mins), a filmmaker decides to start seeing a climate psychologist in hopes that she can find some peace of mind at what she’s pretty sure is the end of the world in this intimate, self-portrait of the intersection between climate change, mental health, fear, helplessness, guilt, anger and ultimately healing. Seeds of Change (Dir. Maximilian Armstrong, 27mins) An organic Farmer in Maine sets out to transform the prison food system in a short about several incarcerated men harvesting their own meals from a five-acre prison garden unlike any other. Two One Two (Dir.Shira Avni, 4mins), combines shimmering clay on glass animation with personal archives in this deeply intimate, experimental animated documentary love letter to motherhood, parenting on the spectrum, and two headed monsters everywhere. Krush The Wrestler (Dir.Alex Megaro, 14mins), Exploring the innate intimacy of submission wrestling, a lifelong wrestler turns his talents into an on-demand fetish video service.
